Mentorship Training on Supporting Women and Girls with Disabilities Launches in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10 June 2025, a training session for mentors at the Center for Professional Development of Social Protection Workers under the National Agency for Social Protection of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan commenced in Tashkent.
The training aims to strengthen the capacity of mentors to provide coordinated, cross-sectoral, and inclusive services in response to discrimination and violence against women and girls with disabilities.
The initiative is led by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) as part of the Joint UN Programme “Reforming the Social Services System in Uzbekistan,” financed by the UN Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD), in cooperation with the National Agency for Social Protection.
The main objective of the training is to prepare a group of mentors who will later train staff at regional “Inson” centers on delivering inclusive and gender-sensitive social services to women and girls with disabilities. The training focuses on key areas such as:
Understanding the unique identities and needs of women with disabilities who have experienced violence;
Improving the accessibility and effectiveness of government support systems;
Creating a safe and supportive environment for survivors.
Around 40 mentors from various regions of Uzbekistan are being trained in interactive teaching methods, communication strategies for different types of disabilities, development of individual support plans, and the creation of specialized training modules.
Upon completion, participants — in collaboration with UNFPA experts — will conduct training sessions for regional “Inson” center staff and develop practical recommendations to enhance interagency coordination in providing assistance to women with disabilities who have experienced violence.
